AISI 440C is a high-carbon stainless steel known for its excellent hardness and wear resistance. With a carbon content of around 0.95-1.20%, it can be hardened to a Rockwell hardness of 58-60 HRC. This makes it ideal for applications requiring sharp edges and durability, such as knives, cutting tools, and bearings. AISI 440C also offers good corrosion resistance due to its chromium content (16-18%). However, it is more difficult to machine compared to lower-carbon stainless steels. Its combination of hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance makes it a popular choice in demanding industrial applications.
